We are pleased to announce that the 5th 2012 Joint DVM/DCB Southeastern Regional SICB meeting will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the College of Charleston, which is located in the historic district of downtown Charleston, SC.
The meeting will comprise a full day of 10-minute talks (7 minutes for presenting plus 3 minutes for Q&A) covering topics pertaining to morphology and biomechanics, and will begin with a keynote presentation to be delivered by Dr. William Kier (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill). The title of Dr. Kier’s presentation will be Fast and Slow Squid Muscle: an Integrative Analysis of Fiber Evolution and Specialization
We especially encourage student talks, as the regional meetings provide a friendly environment in which to share research progress and new ideas. Talks will be interspersed with coffee breaks and a catered lunch, giving plenty of opportunity for informal discussion. The meetings will finish at approximately 3PM on Saturday, which will give people some time to decompress and enjoy the historic district before an evening of southern coastal cuisine and craft beer!
Dinner will take place at Fleet Landing Restaurant, located on 186 Concord Street (843-722-8100). You can reference the reservation under SICB, and the wait-staff is expecting separate checks. Following dinner, we will stroll to the Southend Brewery and Smokehouse, located on 161 East Bay Street (843-853-4677).

The Registration page has been updated, and there, you will be able to enter in your presentation title and indicate your meal preference for lunch. The registration fee is $20 per person, in cash, due when you arrive at the meeting on October 27. The deadline for registration is October 15. Registration fees will cover coffee breaks, snacks to be served during the coffee breaks, and lunch.
